Is it time to repair or replace my system? There are many factors to consider before choosing to repair or replace your system. Age and frequency of repairs are something that needs to be considered. The age of system is critical factor to consider when repairing the system to assure it's a good use of your money. A lot of contractors and home owners use the '$5,000 rule'. You multiply the age of the equipment by the repair cost, and if that exceeds $5,000, then replace the unit. If the cost is less, go ahead and repair it. i.e. equipment age: 11 years x repair cost: $550.00 = $6,050. Unit should be replaced. i.e. equipment age: 10 years x repair cost: $350 = $3,500. It’s OK to repair. Energy efficiency is also something important to consider. A unit that is over 10 years old might be causing you high utility bills and will continue to increase over time. Every home and unit is different which is why it is important to have a professional technician look at your unit to determine your units efficiency, age and longevity. At John's A/C, our proffesional technicians are more then happy to diagnose your system and help you make the best decision for you and your family.

Are there signs that point my A/C needs repairs? It is always safe to schedule a service call if you are suspecting your A/C might need some repairs. You may need air conditioning repair services if there is leaking liquid around the inside unit, the air in the home isn't hot or cool enough, the unit is short-cycling or constantly turning on and off, using the system is consistently resulting in higher-than-normal utility bills, or if there's excessive noise during startup and operation. If any of these scenarios sound familiar, schedule a service call with one of our experienced service technicians.

How can I avoid needing system repairs? There's nothing that will 100% guarantee that your system will not need repairs. Unfortunatly things happen, and repairs might need to take place. But there are various steps that you can take to better care for your system. A bi-annual maintenance agreement is highly recommended. By spending a little once a year, you can save a lot in energy bills by keeping your system operating at peak efficiency. These service checkups can reveal leaks, rust or wear and tear, which might be causing poor performance from your system. Changing out your filter regularly is also important, this helps ensure no debris is obstructing or interfering with the outside unit and can keep the indoor blower motor running smoothly. If you want to know more about how you can keep your unit running smoothly for the years to come, feel free to give us a call! One of our trained technicians will be more then happy to help give you tips and tricks to ensure peak performance from your system.

TIPS TO MAKE YOUR HOME MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT
Purchase A Programmable Thermostat
A programmable thermostat is one of the easiest ways to save money on your utility bill. Programmable thermostats function by the settings the homeowner has specified, so if you’ve chosen an energy-efficient setting that allows the HVAC system to rest during the day when no one’s home, you can reduce your utility bills drastically. Instead of trying to remember every day to change your thermostat's settings, programmable thermostats allow you to schedule automatic temperature changes based on your schedule.
Regularly Change Your Air Filter
Dirty air filters block the airflow through your system making it less efficient. Once a month, take out your air filter and inspect it for debris. If you cannot see light passing through your filter, it may be time for a change. Typically, good air filters can last 30 to 90 days, and some last up to a full year depending on quality and design, but inspecting them each month and changing them sooner when necessary will make your HVAC system more efficient and save you money.
Replace your HVAC equipment with newer, high-efficiency equipment.
If your system is 10 to 15 years old, it may need to be replaced. Consider replacing your unit with a high-efficiency unit that maximizes energy savings. This may be costly upfront, but if you can afford to make the investment, it pays off big time in energy savings over time. Replacing your old A/C unit with a more efficient, ENERGY STAR-rated unit can save you hundreds of dollars per year. Would you like to see an average of how much you would save? Attic Ventilation & Insulation
Insuring that your attic is properly ventilated as well as insulated will help your current A/C system to cool your home in the summer as well as heat it during the winter. Proper attic insulation can also reduce the time that your A/C system is spent running and cut down on high utility bills.
